Basic overview
The drill meet is a competition between schools with other ROTC programs. Different aspects of ROTC (such as drill, and color guard) are performed and whoever performs the best wins.
Points will be deducted from 100 as you make mistakes.
The Judges are Drill Instructors from different branches. Some times from the Navy, Marine Corps, or Army Drill instructors can be seen, commonly, in many drill competitions.

Drill (Armed/ Unarmed)There would be a drill card to be executed at different drill meets.
The drill card must be executed in the boundaries set by the school. Drill Instructors usually look for the way the commander gives the command and how well the platoon or squad executes the command. After that, Drill Instructors look at the accuracy of the movements. |
Color GuardThere would be a drill card to be executed at different drill meets.
The American flag should always be the tallest flag as well as the commander for the color guard. There will be set boundaries that are not allowed to be passed during the execution of the drill card. Drill Instructors and judges will look at the coordination of the Color Guard as a whole. They will also asses every single little move. Unlike Drill, Color Guard is harder to hide small mistakes. Which makes Color Guard very tough. |
Inspection/ AcademicsThe Inspection Team consists of the best uniforms and knowledge.
Inspection concentrates more on the content and appearance of your uniform. If you know how you earned your ribbons, where your ribbons are placed, the chain of command and the orders to the sentry, you will survive the inspection team. Academics team is more complicated. The tests usually involve random questions on basic NJROTC knowledge, Home Economics knowledge, current events knowledge, and maybe even simple math problems. The more diverse the team the better they will do on the Academics test. The more different people know about certain things, the better collective knowledge your team will have. |
